The data comprise of the concentrations in the mud fraction of sediments (<63μm size), normalized and not normalized to Fe, of a suite of metals [Iron (Fe), arsenic (As), barium (Ba), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), tin (Sn), vanadium (V) and zinc (Zn), and in gross sediments of total mercury (THg), methyl mercury (MeHg)] and hydrocarbons [normal and isoprenoid alkanes, triterpenoids, steranes, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)]. The above analytes are selected because they are commonly associated with contaminant inputs from petroleum-, municipal-and/or military-related activities. Generally, the concentrations of the trace metals in the study area are below or comparable to those in world's unpolluted nearshore marine sediments. Cluster analysis on the composite database of either all the metals (both normalized and not normalized to Fe basis) or hydrocarbons show lack of discrete grouping of stations confined to the individual three regions. Significant regional differences in some individual analyte's concentrations are noted, though. Time-interval comparisons of the concentrations of metals …

Investigation of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) and index metals (Ni & V) on Gammarus’s tissue (Pontogammarus maeoticus) and coastal sediments of the Caspian Sea ; Guilan Province
The southern part of the Caspian Sea is one of the most important habitats for Gammarus (Pontogammarus maeoticus) species. These areas are surfing under the influence of persistent pollutants such as heavy metals, petroleum hydrocarbons and their derivatives. In this study, the concentration of nickel (Ni), vanadium (V) as oil pollution indices, and total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) in Gammarus...

This study was carried out to find any relative concentrations of the trace metals (Cu, Cd, Zn and Pb) in the liver and the kidney of Acipenser persicus and in the surficial sediments of the west coast of The Southern Caspian Sea. Twenty five samples of the Acipenser persicus (Persian sturgeon) and ten samples of the sediments were taken from five fishing stations in autumn 2001. The tissues we...

In this study, concentration of 17 elements, including As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cu, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn, Ca,Fe, Mg, Na, P, S, Si, as well as methylmercury in 31 surface sediments were assessed. The sampling stations were Gulf of Golestan, Miankale Island, Babolsar, Nowshahr and Anzali, which represented the most important harbors in the Golestan, Mazandaran and Gilan provinces in the southern parts of th...

متن کاملHeavy metals in coastal sediments of South Caspian Sea: natural or anthropogenic source?
This paper focuses on heavy metal distribution patterns in sediments of central Guilan (CG) and east Mazandaran (EM) in the south Caspian Sea coasts, north of Iran. Sediment sub-samples were retrieved from core and surficial samples in different environments of marine and coastal lagoons as well as coastal outcrops. Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry and Atomic Emission Spectrometry (...
